Brown overtunicThis is a simple woolen cyclas that I made for Shoshanna so that she could match Matatias and me at events (we each have a gown made from this same material).

The gown itself is a simple Nockert Type 6 layout – two body panels and trapezoidal side gores.  In this case, there are four side gores and I did not shape the shoulder seams to the slant of her shoulders (which I will want to do in the future – it starts to look a little wingy as it is).  The one unique thing about this garment is that it is a lot bigger than it looks – it fits her just about right right now.  What you don’t know is that there are pleats at the tops of the gores!  They are actually about 4″ across at the top, and then pleated in so that right now the armscyes come to a point.  As she grows, I’ll be able to let those pleats out to make room for her bigger self.  I also have about 3″ of additional length available in the hem.

I assembled this garment entirely on the machine.  It has contrasting topstitching (I know… visible machine stitching – the shame of it all!) and the seams are felled open – this wool is INCREDIBLY ravelly so I really needed to enclose the seams.

And she had a bit of spontaneous opera syndrome when I finally managed to get her to let me take a picture of her in it.
